French long-stay visa refused: appeal (CRRV Nantes) or reapply, checklist
Read the reason checked on the refusal literally, then choose: appeal, reapply, or both.
The boxes are meant to be checked on paper.
- Appeal deadline: 30 days from notification, to the Commission de recours contre les décisions de refus de visa, BP 83609, 44036 Nantes Cedex 01 (registered mail with receipt, several days early)
- Mandatory before any court action; silence for 2 months = rejection; then the administrative court of Nantes within 2 months
- Attach the refusal, the whole dossier and the new evidence that answers the reason checked, in French if possible
- Reapplying is often faster, but the refusal is on file: fix the reason and say what changed in a cover note
- Insufficient means → euro summary, 6 months of statements, income letters; doubts on purpose → rewrite the letter, align public profiles, get a lease; insurance → health policy letter naming France, dates, ceiling; incomplete file → rebuild against the France-Visas list
- Second refusal, prior overstay, criminal record, complex income: see a French immigration lawyer
